Have you browsed YouTube lately? If you have then you probably would have noticed an outburst of ‘Harlem Shake’ videos. It’s the new trending thing on YouTube and has already gone viral. The thing to wait and see is how contagious is this viral effect. Will it even come close to matching ‘Gangnam Style’ or will it die out soon?
For a long time YouTube benefited from the Gangnam Style outrage and now it’s the Harlem Shake. These videos were uploaded during the first week of Feb 2013 and have been viral ever since. YouTube reported that by Valentine’s Day there were a total of 40,000 Harlem Shake videos with a total of over 175 million views!
So what is the Harlem Shake all about?
Harlem Shake is a dance that originally began in Harlem, New York in the 1980s. In 2012, DJ and producer Baauer released a song called the ‘Harlem Shake’. The Harlem Shake videos are typically 30 second videos based on this track. It starts with one person in a crowd dancing randomly wearing a mask. As soon as the beat drops the whole crowd joins him and start dancing randomly.
The Harlem Shake can be done anywhere, in an office or underwater. Since even puppies can do the ‘Harlem Shake’, we at Toy Tasting put a few of our toys together and made them do a Parody of the Harlem Shake.
